Sunset Overlooking Castle Ruin Hohenfreyberg
Hohenfreyberg Castle, together with Eisenberg Castle directly opposite, forms a group of castles in the southern Allgäu, around four kilometers north of Pfronten in the Ostallgäu district.
The son of Friedrich von Freyberg-Eisenberg built Hohenfreyberg Castle on the neighboring hill in 1418–1432, opposite Eisenberg Castle, and named himself Friedrich von Freyberg-Eisenberg zu Hohenfreyberg after her.
The castle is considered to be one of the last major new constructions of the German Middle Ages. In the vicinity there are numerous other castles, ruins, castle stables and fortresses, including the well-known Neuschwanstein Castle, on both sides of the German-Austrian border.
